ace--$12-14k isn't all that much to have invested, depending on how long you've had your '04. But since you must certainly remember what you initially paid for the bike, then you seem to have made deliberately vague your memory of how much you've spent on mods. This is probably what most of us do, whether or not we are aware of it.

C'mon! you just can't lose the memory of spending a couple grand on your bike! So you'll have to try harder.

I'd guess only about 4000 or so.

oh I hate to think about it. I have more into my FXDX than my 2008 CVO springer soft tail I think.

$8,000 2000 FXDX used
$5,000 1st mods (seat(s) , windshield, boss bags, full 10K service,
forks rebuilt, works shocks, new rims & tires,
forward ctls, license plate reloc, led mirrors,
full leds backend lighting with new bullets,
SE heavy breather,
stater replacement with complete labor for all)
$ 750 2nd set of tins (tank, front/rear fenders)
$ 320 Rifle roadster 1/4 fairing
$2100 Paint 2nd set of tins - custom graphics
$1000 Powercoating and rebuilding front in once again with triple trees
$1000 LSR-II black exhaust with shields
$9000 New 120R crate engine and associated upgrades with full labor to
install with new tins, dyno break in etc

$27,170 total

Now I feel sick and especially broke.

That said I have many take off parts I am selling or sold - the big ones:
- 95 CI motor
- windshield - yes don't need no more
- rims
- mid controls
- seats
- original shocks
- exhaust
- 44mm carb and heavy breather

I figure the take offs are at least $3500

Also I have a complete set of tins in great shape (no dents, scratches etc). These are worth about $1000 also. Try finding a 2000 FXDX tank in great shape - they are over $500 and new is $1100. Actually I have a new tank still in the box that my insurance paid for and I got to keep the original. I figure I will paint this set in rainbow colors to use when I go to those fun commie rainbow events...

So the grand total really is $22,670. I paid $22,000 for the 2008 CVO Springer, but it ain't no FXDX with a 120R!

Course the previous owner did a lot of mods also like a 88->95 stage 4 build. Not counting that cost since it was in the purchase price used and the engine is being sold anyway...

Finally, I bet the bike is worth half of what I got into it so its going to be buried with me.

By far the biggest expense has been about $9K for the 120R engine/parts/install for my Fat Bob...

Don't like to think of the total over the past 3 1/2 years of ownership. But it has been more than just immensely enjoyable.

Nice to hear the 120R cost is about the same between us

Paid $13,000 for the bike (2002 CVO Dyna FSDWG3) and then took it to the dealer and had the following done.

New front fork springs and racetech gold emulator installed
New rear shocks custom built for me from Works
New Harley hydraulic timing chain tensioner and oversized oil pump
New L.E.D. turn signals throughout and Panacea rear taillight
New Harley H.I.D. Headlamp
New 13" floating front rotor and PM six Piston front Caliper, six piston in rear also.
Thinking about new Renegade Aspen wheels and matching pulley, rotors also.

That's about another 10K right there!

ISN'T IT FUN SPENDING MONEY ON THEM?
Non bikers look at us like we've gone absolutely insane.

Now the real question is..............how many of you are MARRIED and were ALLOWED (poor choice of words I know) to spend that kind of money???

Full disclosure here............I am "the wife" and my only stipulation is..........what ever he spends on his bike, I get to spend the same amount on mine. No arguments so far.

To bring about world peace, I got her the same year FXDB ...she likes her limited addition paint set over mine though she is now jealous of the new 44Roller8 Burleigh (1 3/4") bars on my Street Bob. Probably get her something similar next year.

World Piece...........that's a good one. Christmas is only 7 months away!! Just get a huge red bow ( or one to match her bike color ), stick on the bars and surprise her in the next morning........... you'll be all set. A Harley bracelet or watch would be a nice touch too .
