fuel injection...starts easier in cool and cold weather. Stage 1 upgrade at the beginning, I think that you should definitely be able to get MSRP. Hard to tell though on the '06's since they will have a 6 speed tranny. They may be very popular and get marked up. Consider getting an engine guard. A lot of new or returning riders will drop the bike at slow or zero speeds and these are great protection. Also, you can put foot pegs on them rather inexpensively aand that will help with more leg room.I have an '05 FXDI and agree that for the money it is one of Harley's best kept secrets. Saving that 3 or 4 thousand allows you to buy a lot of goodies and make it exactly the way you want it. Take care and enjoy the adventure. Art

thanks for info. like i said i havent seen any negative comment. iv been looking at a few other models. the sporty, the deuce. but i think im pretty sold on the superglide. everything about the bike speaks to me. plus the price. doesnt seem like i could go wrong.
im think of getting a 2005. seems like older models are just as much. will a dealers price be close to tne msrp? the only thing i dont like is the mid foot controls (on the fxd/fxdi) can those be upgraded to forward controls. also how much of a diffrence is there between the fuel injected and the carb? should i get the stage 1 up grade. im a newbi. dont really need the extra power right away. but is it better to do it right away or wait till later? im still a few months out from being able to get one. cant wait. thanks again for all the advice.

I just bought an 05FXDI in June from Independence HD of College Station, TX... they had the best price within 600 miles of my house. Also, I talked the dealership into "giving" me the set of forward Controls and mounting them b4 i picked her up. I Love this bike. SOO MUCH! Also b4 picking the bike up I had them do the stage 1 air cleaner, download, and screamin eagle slip ons. The only thing I would have done Differently, is not get the SE slip ons.. IMHO they are not loud enough. But in saying this, many people think they are plenty loud enough. But mind you I have 2 chevy trucks and the 2 wheel drive has straight duals .. no mufflers, no CAT convertors. with echo tips... (VERY LOUD) and my z71 has headers, with dual flowmasters and it dumps under the truck... (EVEN LOUDER) so I like my vehicles to be VERY VERY LOUD. I also live in the country, ( no noise restrictions from cops)
All and all the FXDI is the best bike for me. I would not have gotten any other bike. I think once you ride it, and get a stage I you will never wanna drive your cage.

Went from an '82 Ironhead Sportster at 1000cc to my '04 FXD (carbed) and have never looked back. The Ironhead had its charm, but there is no comparison between that and a 'Glide. Fully decked out 1200 Custom Sportster starts out at $2600.00 (MSRP) less than a base FXDI, but you get a 20% larger motor at 1450 cc, a 6-speed tranny on the '06 and a smile factor that will keep you grinning so much your wife will think you've done something wrong.
Besides, the plain Jane FXDI gives you so much room to customize and personalize the bike if you don't like the Custom Glide, Wide Glide or Low Rider. IMO, can't go wrong.

probably the best handling v-twin. you can search on this site for the information. i would buy an 06 though. 6 speed trannies! 41 mm forks, 160? rear tire. some major improvements in the dyna line. i am really tempted to trade in my bike for the 06. i like the night train and the duece too but you just can't beat the facts about the dyna series. lowriders are nice because they have a bigger tank with the speedo mounted on the dash. bottom line is, if i could only have one bike, even if i could afford the duece or a roadking, i would still buy a dyna.
Hi,
Bught mine at Dakota Harley Davidson for MSRP plus they threw in a $1,000 dealer cash certificate to get all the goodies I want up to that amount for FREE! Mufflers, 'Ness big sucker stage I upgrade, Stage I re-cal, Leather solo seat, grips, pegs, etc.
The '06's have larger forks and a 6-speed, also 10mm more of rear tire.
I personally like my '05, plus the extra grand in goodies sweetened the pot! I've built it the way I wanted with the cash difference.
Get Fuel Injection if you can, IMHO.[&:]
