Superglides are a great bike for the money. I went from a Sportster 1200 to my 05 Superglide and there's no comparison. Handling, power, a clean slate to customize it your way, and FUN to ride!! I have nothing negative to report about it. Good luck with your research.
I too went from a 1200r Sportster to an 05 FXDI.
I love this bike.
Plenty of low end grunt, good comfort on the interstate, fairly competent handling in the twisites, good cruising range and mpg, and a bargain at least as far as HD BT's go.
Go take one for a test ride and see what you think for yourself.
Whats not to like?

The Superglide and the EG Standard are Harley's best kept secrets. The Superglide is a good bike and a good value. It is basically a spartan Lowrider with less chrome, and considerably less money.

thanks for info. like i said i havent seen any negative comment. iv been looking at a few other models. the sporty, the deuce. but i think im pretty sold on the superglide. everything about the bike speaks to me. plus the price. doesnt seem like i could go wrong.
im think of getting a 2005. seems like older models are just as much. will a dealers price be close to tne msrp? the only thing i dont like is the mid foot controls (on the fxd/fxdi) can those be upgraded to forward controls. also how much of a diffrence is there between the fuel injected and the carb? should i get the stage 1 up grade. im a newbi. dont really need the extra power right away. but is it better to do it right away or wait till later? im still a few months out from being able to get one. cant wait. thanks again for all the advice.

You have to shop it around to find out. There are still dealers wanting over MSRP out there.
As far as the stage upgrade, if you can swing the $$$ , go for it cause it would be covered under the warrantee if you install at delivery, or at least that's what they say.
