Ihave a person buying my bike and he wants to pay with a cashiers check .Is that a check i can go cash rightaway or do i have to wait for it to clear ,he tells me i dont have to wait, but iam nerves about signing over the title rightaway. Should i be or is it ok. This person is from out of state and is getting the bike shipped. and wants the shipper to pick up 2 days after i get the check.
Set up your appointment with him while banking hours are open and go to the bank with him. Or call your local bank and ask them. Jus for the sake of answering your question a cashier's cheque is cash.
He isnt coming in just sending payment buy mail, and the shipper is coming 2 days later. didnt know if enough time for my bank to get it cleared i thought it was like cash but to me still a check then my bike is gone and dont have money.
I had a friend of mine take a "cashiers" check, signed the bike over and gave it to him only to find out the check was worthless. He lost big time on that. Just saying be careful. I wouldn't sign anything over until you have cash in hand or in your bank. Just saying.
Normally...cashier's check is same as cash, but like anything nowadays - can "easily" be created to look legit. This potential buyer could be a Honest Joe & deal's 100% solid, or could be Sleazy Stevie ready to take your scoot. This is why I only sell large deals local & title doesn't transfer until $$$ clears. If right price/buyer - bike(s) will sell...especially this time of year. Your bike/deal, but no cash/deposit = no sale....IMO.
i wouldnt even fool around now a days with checks. but if that is how he wants to pay then call your bank to confirm the clearing time of the check. as well call his bank to confirm. hell do a 3 way call with him and his bank.
In this day and age of electronics, you can always have him transfer it to you straight from his account to yours. Makes it easier if you have the same bank, but can still be done. Or you can use paypal. If it has to be a cashier's check, I wouldn't sign the title over till the check clears the bank.

BIG RED FLAG!
If your bank can't/won't GUARANTEE the funds WITHOUT REPRISALS, don't!!!
