Put the 412's on my 07 Street Bob, but I got 11" to replace the 12" stock ones because I wanted to lower it. So far, it is a much nicer ride than the stock ones. Best price I found was from Direct Harley Parts.
Put black 412's on last night. Got them off of ebay brand new for $200. I rode the bike for a hour today and from what I felt they ride much better then stock.
I've had 412's on several bikes and have always been happy with them. We all have different expectations out of our bike and do certain things that will make us happy. I ride spiritedly and feel pretty confident in my Superglide but some folks may think more expensive shocks are needed for what they feel is more aggressive riding. I don't go around racing people. I just ride and and enjoy it for what it is. What's your budget?
With that said, I can't say that I wouldn't like a better set of shocks and then think, "wow, those 412's sucked". At this point, I don't think I am missing out on anything.
See that's what i'm looking for. I don't need the most expensive shock out there and the stock one to me are not that bad. And i not all the time but i ride a lot of twistys as you put it "spiritedly" and am very confident in my Superglide. Just want to go up a notch.
The nice thing about the 412's compared to stock is simply the progressive nature of the spring wind. Initial travel is soft making for a plush ride, but when pushed, they get real firm. It's a nice ride and noticeably different than stock. I'm not sayin' that everybody should make this change, but if handling is an area that ya want to improve, then this is a pleasurable change.
When I can afford it I'll be replacing my 412's...IMO they're definitely better than the stockers, but not that great. I see mixed opinions on the 440's.
Everyone lately recommends Ricor and Ohlins, but that's a ton of dough for a cruiser. I think Works could be on my horizon.
