Hey All, Ive got a 2012 fat bob & just installed V & H short shots(no more cats), cobra powrflo A/C and due to lack of funds, had the dealer do the stage I download. Woke the bike up but lot of popn on the decel. Anyone have close to the same setup and know a inexpensive way to cure it?
Nightrider products (XiEDs) will richen up the closed loop AFR and will help with this, but save up for a good tuner & dyno tune to get your bike tuned properly. I bought SERTPRO & bike spent 7 hours on the dyno getting tuned....runs 100 times better & no popping whatsoever.
The stage 1 download is crap....no substitute for a good tuner + dyno tune, but the (XiEDs) are a cheap alternative that will work well since your funds are limited.
The 2012 Dyna models have the new 4 band O2 sensors found on the touring models, so you would need the FL-XiED 10 or the FL-ViED 10.
Your bike will still run too lean with the download. The dealer has to comply with EPA regs so they can't make it rich enough to run right.
Sharkman has a good point, you might get some relief with a version of the XIEDs and if at a later date you get a real tuner you can always sell them. It's worth a shot, contact Steve at Nightrider.com and talk to him.
Thanks for the info, will just have to save and get it done right(almost could have bought a tuner for the $205 spent on a download, hindsight)Please excuse my ignorance but, what are XIEDS? are they costly?will they work with the stage I?

They will work with the download,I see them for sale used in the dyna parts section for half price.http://www.nightrider.com/parts/
It's worth mentioning that the stage 1 was never meant to used for the pipes and intake you've installed. That said it will still help but make absolute certain you have no leaks in the exhaust which will always cause popping.
Hey All, , had the dealer do the stage I download.
There went 200$ that could have been much better spent on a tuner, you add xieds to that it still won't run right and you will have wasted another 120$
JMO but stop beating around the bush and go in for the kill. You will save loads of money down the road.
I started a thread on this a little while back. I have a 2012 fat bob with V&H big shots. Some popping. Long story short it took a super tuner and a good dyno tune but it is 100% pop free.
If I were doing it over again I would go with the power vision.
