Do you think the K and N 9608 air filter would make much difference over the stock one? What makes a stage 1 better? Anyone use this filter and have any feedback?
Thanks.
The filter is fine...but you need a new backing plate to get rid of all that plastic that blocks air from getting in. Look at the "big sucker" I got my complete kit including a K&N filter (at least looks like it) for 100 bucks on e-bay...They may be up to like 115 by now. You can also get a kit and use your stock cover if you like it.

You gonna have the HD Dealer do a FLASH on an already Lean runnin' from the Factory machine, that yur gonna lean out even more?
Or go with the FuelPak... qwik, easy + only 2 hunnert $, solved my Lean-ness!
I am not so worried about the lean issue I know all about that. I just want to know about the filter it self and the difference between the se stage 1 performancewise? It says it fits the stock airbox but that being said does it give more intake air or about the same as stock?
I drilled holes along the bottom of stock Air Box and installed the K&N filter. It does give you more air and leans the air/fuel mixture out more, which equals back firing and popping on decel and much hotter engine. I had to adjust my FI controller for a little bit more fuel and it runs fine.
BUT, I have noticed that on hot days it must be sucking hot air from under the bike, and my throttle responsiveness feels less. Then when it's cooler at night it's OK again. Some here said that would happen. Hot air in = less horsepower.
I ordered the Back Plate Kit with a different K&N type and expect that to work much better. Like all the Stage 1's it will take air from all directions and I don't expect to get the lag anymore.
