I feel your pain... those are the same reasons I do all my own work. I can't even trust dealership to order parts for me they never seem to know much about the status of your order. the only thing I'd use a shop for now is balancing my rims, I mount my own tires. Hope you get it back on the road soon, and vent anytime you feel like it we're here for you.

So now the fork lowers came in yesterday and the local indie goes to put them on today. As he is putting them on, he notices the chrome around the top of the tube looks like crap. Pits, a big scratch on one that's about 1/4" wide and 3/4" long. Apparently some of the other parts he had chromed looked bad too and he was already doing them but he didn't catch my fork lowers. Lovely. So now they go back and get redone. Grrrrrr...going on week three.

Man!! If I ever get back down to riding through California again Im gonna either do my own service or have my local master indy mechanic do it before I get there.
With service rates like that Id have to sell my bike just to eat. Hope your bike gets back together soon.

I don't blame the indy so much as I do the Chromer they have doing the work. A week and half to do a crap job and now they go back to do it right. That's what gets me most.

As for prices, remember I'm talking about a 30K service, not just the fork oil. Never got a quote for that...and never thought about it. Though those rates are why I do most of my own service...the fork oil change was the only one I just didn't want to mess with.

Wow, I hate to hear about hassles like these. I hope the re-chrome comes out better and you put this one to bed. I wish you a speedy recovery (if you will) to get back on the road.

That's just the opposite of me...pleanty of tools...no space to work on it. I work up in Norco...would have been able to do this myself if I had space to leave the bike layed up while the parts were out for chrome. Speed wise though...only would have saved about two days. The Indy has actually been pretty good other than being able to talk to the chromer.
