Default leather shrinking... how to stretch?

The top on one of my fxdxt bags shrank and now one of the snaps doesn't reach. It's off by almost an inch! Does anyone know of a way to stretch the leaher back without making it brittle?

its dried out, you need to put some life back into it.

I had a tight fitting pair of cowboy boots and a old timer told me to pour water in them and let it soak for awhile, then dump the water out and wear em' til theyre dry

I have found that saddle/boot oil works well in stretching and shaping leather. In addition, it conditions leather which will increase its service life.

Using steam will speed up the stretching process. However, you should recondition the leather after a "water" process, whether it is steam or drenching. saddle/boot oil is inexpensive and works well but does require buffing to eliminate the dust attraction of the oil. Another good way to recondition leather is the use of mink oil, which usually comes in a paste form.

hope this helps.

Stop eating fast food.

Oh wait, that's for leather jackets.

Keep them oiled up. I had an old pair of leather saddle bags that the PO had not oiled and they were curled up and shrinking. I used Obenauf's Leather Oil on them for about a week (get the leather warm so it soaks up the oil) and they were back to shape.
