Default changing air filter

I got the cover off, but how do you get the filter off. I know it is probably something real easy like pull or push ,but I dont need to break anything either. ? Thanks in advance for taking it easy on a newbie.

Yeah - I missed those screws the first time too... While we are on the subject - is the filter part of that plate, or does the filter come off the plate? I was cleaning and re-charging the filter last night and tried to get the plate off, but didn't want to mess it up so didn't try very hard. Do you locktite (blue) the screws? I felt like the fact the cover is held on with that big hex bolt, and is close enough to the small torx screws, that the torx screws wouldn't come out.

Sorry, yeah, K & N. Re-oiling the filter is what I should have said - K & N calls it "re-charging"...that stuck in my head when I wrote that..

Yes they get dirty. They sell a K&N Re-charging (cleaning and oiling) kit. Probably be able to find one at the local parts store. I know Advance has them here.

Yes, they need to be oiled to work. I've never bought one new, but I think they come oiled. They don't need to be cleaned and oiled very often - I think K & N says like 30,000 or 40,000 miles...actually, I've read the dirtier they get, the better they work. Mine was soaked in engine oil (don't ask) so I needed to clean it. Here's K and N's site if you want to read more: http://www.knfilters.com/
