Default 2006 Street Bob

Hey everyone...I'm going to be purchasing my first Harley (not my first bike) sometime around Christmas. I have been riding bikes since I was about 10 so I am very comfortable on just about any style ride.

I started out looking at the Sportsters and have ridden a few of the 05s - very nice bikes. But I feel that if I buy a Sportster I'll am going to "outgrow" it quickly and will end up wanting to upgrade at the end of the riding season. My dream bike is a Fat Boy - but that's a little too rich for my wallet right now.

I've done a lot of reading etc and I am leaning very hard towards the Dyna Street Bob FXDBI. I love the look of this bike and it is in the right price range.

My question is more of a request for everyone's opinion about the Street Bob. I know the decision is ultimately mine and it comes down to riding style and preference, but I would like to tap into the years of collective experience available in this forum and see what kind of feedback and thoughts all the riders have on this model.

Thanks in advance for any feedback...it is much appreciated.

JB

Mechanically, all the classes of bikes are the same. The only difference between one and the other besides the fork / triple tree assembly are the cosmetic changes. What I mean is I ride a Softail Standard and a friend of mine has a Fatboy. While our fork and triple trees are different, the rest of the bike is virtually the same other than a different fender, front tire and that sort of stuff. I guess my point is, HD's are good bikes. The choice you make is all based on your personal preference.

To me, it's a little hard to tell someone else what would be a good bike for them because not everyone fits a bike the same way. When I bought my Springer, I just sat on it and it felt right to me. Others probably wouldn't like that particular model and that's OK with me. I like all Harleys and while I haven't seen that many Bobbers, the ones that I have seen I liked. Someday maybe I will get the chance to sit on one. Good luck on your choice, sometimes, it can be a hard decision.

You've got some time between now and Xmas so you might want to rent a couple of models.

Thanks for all the feedback - I was pretty much just looking for opinions on the bike itself - not really for personal reccommendations - just some feedback from anyone who's ridden them or knows someone wo owns one.

I'll be checking a few different models out this coming weekend in my quest to make a decision one way or the other.

It's probably between the Street Bob and the Sportser XL1200C...

Since the Street Bob is a new 'o6 model, you'll be lucky to find anyone that has an extensive riding on one at this early date. That being said, there is really no comparison between a Dyna and a Sportster, as nice as the Sportys are with the redisigned engine and all for '04, the Big Twins are in a class by themselves. As some have said, styling is a personal choice, but the lines of the Bob do look pretty good.

IMHO, Dyna is the way to go, but that's just my $.02 worth.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'm definitely leaning towards the Bob...really nice looking bike. I plan on checking a few out this weekend...should be fun.

From what I can tell, the Street Bob is just a Dyna Lowrider with more black-finish and less chrome, with a set of mini-apehangers (which, on that bike, are really comfortable), all for about $3000 less. Since I know the Low Rider is a favorite first bike of a lot of people, I'd say the Street Bob will be an excellent first Harley.

That's pretty much the way they are marketing the bike...and the first time I sat on one I couldn't believe how comfortable I was. I'm only 5 foot 7, and this bike feels like it was built for me.

I'm going to go look at them some more this Saturday morning and try to get closer to a decision as far as what I want to do. I won;t be ready to take delivery of a new bike until December or so, but I'll go ahead and put a deposit on the bike I want so I don't end up waiting too long...this dealer is getting them in at a rate of 1 a month so I should be good to go.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback...much appreciated.

Street bob also comes with spokes instead of cast alum stuff on the lowrider. i guess the savings is in the chrome.
