So you learned a lesson. HP isn't everything. TQ has its place.
My 1300 FJR had 169 HP, but like no TQ. It was fast, but I will take my 120R dyna any day. almost 40 less HP, but 130 TQ. Only need a 4 speed
In my eyes a VROD isn't a harley - its an out sourced harley
Just keep in mind the 103 isn't water cooled and adding power could add heat...
The V-rod motor is one of the most developed and refined racing motor Harley has ever made, saying it isnt a (real) Harley is just an ignorant statement, but I do agree with you that torque is a lot of fun, but it will only take you so far, you get low end power minus over all power, like I said "easy power", you've got to know how to operate what you are riding to get the most out of it.
Do the stage 1 and get a good tune and see if you like the gains, from that it is cams and headwork which adds quite a bit to the cost. You should do the stage 1 and tune just to get rid of some heat and get the thing running as it should ...IMO
Going through pretty much the same as you, I sold the lay down turbo'd Suki drag bike and went back to a street bike, a 2012 Wide Glide and am looking to add a few numbers to the HP/TQ.
I'm looking at a Stage 1 Big Sucker intake, a TTS Mastertune (No dyno needed to get close to a dyno tune) and maybe the Rineheart 2 into 1.
Not sure on the exhaust yet though.
Might want to watch warranty and what voids it, it for a bit.
Haven't modified a Harley in many years, but imho I'd come up with a total package of what you want to do, figure out what is needed to get the performance that you want, and buy then.
No sense in buying a stage one air cleaner/exhaust/whatever when you may need the stage 2 eventually.
Not always easy, but might save ya some money in the long run.

The V-ROD motor is a revolution motor, "jointly" developed with / by Porsche. Saying it's not a real harley motor is far from an ignorant statement.
First, it's sitting 60 degrees, its water cooled and its an overhead cam.
I did it with a cam, a/c and exhaust. I am at 96HP and 102tq. I have a 96" so it should be a little easier on the 103".
I agree. It's probably because of the pipe we run. Lol. I got 101 hp and 106 to with cams, a/c, exhaust, TMax and little horsepower tricks with the throttle body and manifold.
I upgraded my 2012 103 ci SG with the following.
Started with S&S Intake,Thunderheader and TTS tuner and dyno. Came out with 88 hp and 104tq.
Had some pinging issues when the weather was hot so decided to upgrade
even more.
Now have Wiseco dome top pistons,259e cams, new needle style cam bearings, new valve springs, push rods, lifters, upgraded clutch to AIM
had the heads blueprinted then Dyno'd at 116+hp and 126+ tq numbers.
Runs awesome now and pulls like a freight train. Very happy with the results.
