Default Holy chit

I call the Dealer because I'm needing a new rear tire on my wide glide. I decide I'll try out one of the new Michelin Scorchers, I ask what that's going to cost me mounted and balanced, he tells me $426.00. That is one F'ing tire!! Just told him I don't think that's going to happen.
So I go online and ordered a Pirelli night dragon and I'll mount the damned thing myself. HD has 100% pushed me away, everything is just much to high.

Well you pay for the labor re and re, if you can take the wheel off, any indy can mount it for $20, put ride-on sealant in the tire, you don't even need to balance.

Default Tires

You can buy your tires from a lot of places besides Harley. The going rate to mount a tire here is $50.00 per tire. I just let them mount em and I install them. The last Michelin I bought for the bike was about 200.00 last spring.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, 200. To mount a tire is just not right no matter how you slice it. I'll mount it myself for free.
I had no idea what HD would charge for servicing a bike back when I bought it, when they did the first oil change and charged me over 300.00 I have been doing everything myself since except the tires, now I'll just do those as well, this is my 4th rear tire and I can not afford to pay the dealer any longer for tires.
Pirelli are the only tire I could find in the right size for the rear without buying Dunlop or Michelins from HD. If you know of others please enlighten me.

the tire game is a expensive one. I wish I knew someone who could show me how to properly take of the rims and put them back on. I need a mentor. It is so expensive its almost not a pleasure anymore. its a pain.

Yeah that's crazy! I usually order my metzelers in bulk(3-4) tires at a time from my local Honda dealer. Nobody can match his prices, plus he cuts me a deal when I buy so many at one time. He charges $20 for mounting and I install them myself. My local hd dealer is a great dealership, but prices for parts are going through the roof! And to be honest that's what pushes me to look elsewhere.

If you have a Cyclegear location near you, they will install purchased there tires for little of nothing, and if you are a regular customer, they will install a brought in tire for around $30.xx incl. balancing. Gotta catch them when the store isn't busy, though. tomp dd50

Nothing like that here. I have buds with a garage and they are able to dismount and mount the tire to the rim. I'll just run it to *gasp* Honda dealer here in town to balance. But I think I'm going to start rigging me up my own way of doing it all.

Somehow HD has these tires all wrapped up in the back, you cannot just buy the 180/60-18 frank ol place. Metzler does not make them. Yet!
