Default Fat Bob console going black - advice

I'm de-chroming the console on my Fat Bob and having it black. Choices are either paint or powder coat.

What's the pros and cons of the two?

I think the advantage of powdercoating is it will hold up better then straight paint. It also depends on what look you are going for. I've seen some nice dashes in a wrinkle black powder coat....looks great

OP: "What's the pros and cons of the two?"

Mostly a matter of cost, quality, convenience. I did several of my trim pieces with VHT Wrinkle Black and am more than satisfied with the way they turned out.

When he says paint, he's probably referring to rattle can.

Powdercoat it and be done. To easy. That's where my powdercoating addiction began. Once you start down this path there's no turning back.

There is another "look" you could try and if you don't like it you could powdercoat it then. It is called Dupli-Color Metalcast paint. You spray their clear adhesion promoter (primer) right onto the chrome, then any choice of colors they offer including "Smoke". The chrome still shows through but looks black.

I have used it myself and it is quite durable and scratch resistant if properly applied.
