Default 2012 FXDF technical questions

Good day,
I'm new here - not yet a Harley Owner but a couple questions I could not find the answers to regarding a 2012 FXDF.

One of the features of the 2012 V103 is something called rear cylinder cut out. This feature is supposed to turn off fuel to rear cylinder when at idle. Does adding a powercomander/fuelpak/thundermax fuel management module disable or otherwise inhibit the functionality of the rear cylinder cut out?

Theres a guy local to me selling a used 2012 Fat Bob; He upgraded the exhaust with V&H short shots but did not add any fuel management. He has put about 2k miles on the bike. Could the engine have suffered any damage without being tuned for these pipes?

Thanks for your help!

I would have to check the manual, but I think it says if you want the parade feature to let you dealer know & they will enable it.

You will be fine with the exhaust & no fuel management.

I agree with OSU (by the way I went to the other OSU, Oregon State). I'd check to see if the seller opened up the intake since there is some debate about that + exhaust without any A/F compensation. Either way 2K miles is nothing so unless those were at the drag strip should be ok.

What you are talking about is the EITMS cooling feature, apparently all HD's have it but not all models have it enabled, I don't know about the 2012 models but for the 2010 Dyna models it is disabled by default from the factory, when I installed my TTS it is enabled by default but can be shut off if you so desire.

Right out of my 2012 Fat Bob owners manual.

**********************************
For those riders who frequently find themselves in riding conditions where the vehicle is subjected to prolonged idle conditions or traffic congestion, an optional dealer enabled engine calibration is available. This calibration offers limited rear cylinder cooling with the vehicle stopped while the engine is left at idle.

This option is available for original equipment engine calibrations only. Motorcycles are delivered from the factory with the engine idle temperature management disabled. Engine idle temperature management can be enabled and disabled by your dealer.
**********************************
Will it work with a tuner? I'm not sure, but I doubt it. I haven't installed a tuner yet. Maybe someone that has can answer that.

So it is still disabled from the factory, I don't know what other tuners do but the TTS will switch it to default when you load one of their maps - YOU can then decide to disable it again or not, the choice is yours, no dealer involved.

Welcome to the Forum.

Your first post should be an introduction in the new members forum. Then you should look around a bit and find the best place to post questions. Like maybe here.;

the rear cyl will only cut out after a certain temperature. Say if you are stuck in traffic or a long red light on a hot day. If the dealr turns it on for you it is called a download, and is IMO no way worth 200$. If you want to know how the engine is running you could pull the spark plugs and look at them. there are pics and a guide on the internet google is your friend.
welcome to the forums. i hope you buy that fatty!

I don't believe they consider it a download. When they started using this feature in 2008 the dealer had to enable it for free and disable it once for free also. Mine turned on only once on my Ultra Classic, I was stuck in traffic in Taos New Mexico, it worked just fine and did what it was supposed to.
