Default Bad Neck Bearings Cause Accidents?

Hi was wondering if anyone here has had experience with bad or loose neck bearings? I recently brought my bike to get serviced and the guy told me the bearings were loose and it could be have been a recipe for disaster...What usually happens?

(I have 2007 Street Bob)

I have never seen one worn bad or loose enough to cause an accident, you will get a wobble for sure, keep it in mind you are talking to a service guy, he will do anything to sell you a job.

The service guy was right. If they are too tight the bike can try to steer itself so to speak, contrary to what 128 said it can be very serious.
Too loose and you can still have issues, so yes they need to be done right.
Any problem with the neck bearings can be a serious issue especially for an inexperienced rider.
When I rebuilt my front end after my accident they were about 1/2 turn too tight and the bike would over correct itself for any little movement, it was very unsettling and a very short ride.

Loose bearings can be tightened up, bad bearings need replaced.
Did he adjust, or try to adjust the fallaway?

A full blown tank slapper at 80+ mph is about the worst that can happen, and it's not fun, not even a little bit.

And during the inspection on my bike at the Indy, I was diagnosed with a bad neck bearing. The mechanic is a friend, so I don't think I'm being screwed. He said he sees it often on sprinters, but not my bike.

But, it's Friday afternoon, and a 3 hour job...so I won't see the bike until next week.

Crap.

I just had the fallaway tightened up. Very confidence-dashing experience to have that not adjusted properly. Bike gets all wobbly on deceleration. I imagine bad neck bearings would be that + worse.

And by sprinters, I actually meant springers. Damned autocorrect.
