sissy bar diameter

re-posting here.. no response in the general forum:

"folks,

Did a search found nothing.. bout to bend up a sissy bar (brass nuckle bar) to accomodate stock ridgid sideplates..

any ideas as to a preferred barstock diameter? i will be using round cold roll 1018..

what is the measurement for the square receptical on the factory plate? What about diameter of the oem round bar?

any help appreciated.. just getting a game plan together.

im not home but i could measure the sq receptical and post up later.

as for the sissy bar id use 3/8" maybe 1/2"

thanks for the reply.. if you can i would appreciate it.. i was thinking 5/8 dia steel.. probably too big tho..

overkill but this bar will be used and i dont want the b*itch falling off the back..

i was thinking i could heat the round stock and hammer it square at the end or grind square.

i plan on plug welding & welding the bar in the receptical instead of tapping hole.. i want the bar SOLID
