sissy bar diameter

sissy bar diameter
folks,
Did a search found nothing.. bout to bend up a sissy bar (brass nuckle bar) to accomodate stock ridgid sideplates..
any ideas as to a preferred barstock diameter? i will be using round cold roll 1018..
what is the measurement for the square receptical on the factory plate? What about diameter of the oem round bar?
any help appreciated.. just getting a game plan together.

My factory bar is similar to this:

The bar is .559 & the "square receptical on the factory plate" measures .594.
The bar corners are only burnished, not rounded.
