Put a pair of 13" air shocks in place of the 12" chrome vertebrae compressors that came stock on my FatBob.
Interesting change: plush ride, I can ignore some rough pavement that used to make the bike hop, steering is quicker, but not twitchy.
Did a speed run this am up to 90 mph and no Dyna wobble. No wobble before, but longer shocks on my XR1200 gave me a bit of head shake so I thought I'd see what this did.
Not as attractive as the chrome smoothies, but has a nice functional look. I went with seperate schrader valves and its a bit of a PITA to fill them evenly, so I'll run the dual line to them tonight.
Bike feels different, standover height is def higher and she feels a bit more responsive in the curves. Fender height looks a bit odd though. Might be time for a different fender (superglide?)
I did the same thing last week on my FXDC, got mine for free off of Craigslist from a woman who was tossing a bunch of parts left in her garage. I didn't know if they were new take-offs or had failed and just never got thrown away. No problems so far!
I don't like that the bike sits so high when it's parked, but it does feel smoother on the road. I haven't found the right air pressure yet, so it has bottomed on a couple of large bumps. My air compressor has a pressure limiter so I set it where I want and hit both shocks, so for now I'll keep them separate.
They're definitely not pretty, but I have a set of Willie & Max bags that hide them fairly well.
I'm mostly worried about 2-up riding. My wife loves to ride with me but her back is pretty sensitive, I'm hoping that these will adjust enough. I haven't had a chance to take her on a test ride yet.
You should only use a shock pump on those, compressor can easily blow the seals if you aren't careful - I run 20-25 psi solo and add 5 or 10 more two up. Gives a nice ride while still behaving nicely in the corners. If you are bottoming there's a good chance the shocks leaked (from poor storage) at some point and may need a drain and refill.
I run 13" Ricor sport tuned shocks. I haven't have any bad handling issues come up. The bike handles Great and the extra clearance helps with cornering...
FWIW, I will add that I also have a True-Track installed.
