So I accidentally stumbled on a set of 2001 FXDL tins on ebay last week. As a lot of you know, I am running an FXDL tank on my FXDX. The 96-03 FXDL tank is super hard to come by and is one of the toughest HD tanks to find. I see them go for $600+ on ebay.
Well, I came across an entire set of 2001 FXDL tins that didn't have a lot of description, one low res pic, and just said they had custom paint. I took a shot, got them for $214 since nobody was bidding. Here is the result:
The paint is not really my style, but is actually pretty flawless and the green/yellow metallic candy looks really deep. The tins themselves are mint, i even did the magnet test to make sure there was no heavy filler/bondo going on.
Not sure if I will hang on to them for spares or flip them at this point, still thinking about it.
Nice score, back in my custom truck days I used to be really into tribal flames. Those actually don't look to bad. I bet if you had a pinstriper stripe the flames in red it would make them look really good.

Yeah, the black flames are just really one dimensional. Just plain black over this really vivid candy yellow/green color. Doesn't really fit together, almost like they need to be pearl black or something.
