Performance Exhaust
Folks,
I've been doing more research on the forums and elsewhere and, like watching an episode of the X-Files, every time a question is answered I end up with more questions than I started with. I've been reconsidering what exhaust I'll be going with when I get back to my bike. The biggest factor I'm looking for is a solid performance exhaust to go on my 2011 Fat Bob. The pipes will be going with an AN Big Sucker and (most likely) a Fuelpak unless someone can give me a good reason to go with something else. Right now I'm leaning toward a Thunderheader 2-1 but before I make any decisions I wanted to run it by the forums for you more knowledgeable folks to weigh in. The only reservation I have about the TH is how loud they are. Maybe this isn't the best reason but I don't want to be a total jackass to my neighbors since I have to leave for work by around 8:30. In the end, however, I'm going to go with the pipes I want. So anyone that can provide some insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, fellas!

I have the same intake with a PC III which I think gives you better options for tuning than the FuelPak. I had been running the Screamin' Eagle II slip ons for about 2 years and just took them off and went with the factory slip ons again. You mentioned the noise and that was my primary reason for the change back. It got to the point where it was bothering me too much. I do have a 60 mile commute though and average about 350 miles a week. I really didn't notice any loss in performance, maybe on the top end but top speed wasn't affected. I do have less fatigue riding now. My previous bike did have a Thunder Header and if noise is a concern, look elsewhere cause they are loud.
Supertrapp may be a good option for you. I have the supermeg, and with the closed end cap it is really quiet at idle. You can adjust the sound by adding or subtracting exhaust discs, and ir you want it to bark louder you can buy the open end cap for about 20$
I have heard way too many complaints about fuel pak as a product to ever even try one. You can go with lots of tuners, but in the end the rreally good ones are around 500.The powervision is the most user friendly good tuner that does not piggy back. I recommend giving fuel moto a call and find out what they have in stock, they will give you a deal, and take care of any technical help you need later.

DCLXVI,
What specifically about the noise bothered you? Was it just more volume than you liked or did they rattle windows through the whole neighborhood.
Maddghost,
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking at them right now.

Well, more reading. (I have a lot of time on my hands today.) The more I learn the more I like the TH. I also know that if I want something and end up going with something else I usually end up going back and getting what I really wanted all along afterall. I guess my only question is will it be too loud when I take off from my apartment complex? Out on the road I don't care at all. I'm still looking at some V&H, fatcat, and a few others. Keep the input coming, fellas!

I like TH, fatcat, and RB racing. I went with the RB LSR1 and I like it. Sound is loud but I don't care. I leave for work before 6 am. F**k um if they can't sleep in! I don't care who I wake up. I like A loud exhaust! those super megs look good too.
LOL I like that and I'm starting to go the same route. Thanks, fellas. Now, time to start thinking about a tuner...

Well, whether you give a F or not, imho living in an apartment complex is not the best place for loud pipes, imho you'll have somebody calling and complainning, to both the cops and the apartment owners.
Both can make life miserable and one I'm betting can have you looking for a new place to stay.
A lot depends on who else is in the complex too.
I'm going with the Rineheart 2 into 1, best guess is it will give me a increase in performance and be able to keep the neighbors happy.

rinehart isnt all that much quieter. a TH has more of a baffle than any rinehart pipe. i went with the TH and fuelpak which works great, but will be switching to a tuner down the line after my truck modifications. sound wise, the TH has a fairly loud idle when first fired up since the bike is cold, but once warm its fine. and when you take off you can keep the noise down quite a bit by taking off slowly on a low throttle. you dont always have to go tearing away.
Pretty much any pipes can be quiet enough if you keep the RPMs down to a minimum.Since modern Harleys are fuel injected you don't have to sit and warm them up.What I do is start the bike up and ride away immediately at the lowest RPMs I can manage without stalling. My bike is parked right next to my landlords house and I leave at 5:15.
