I need to do mine, too. I have the manual, tools and ability, but this will be the first time. Any tricks, or tips.... I have to remove the nacelle and fork covers on my Fatboy. Any oils better than others, etc. Thanks
a good time to consider upgrading your suspension. The Ohlins drop in cartridges made a world of difference in handling and comfort. I've posted about the difference before, but I'll just add this- dynas aren't sport bikes, but with the right suspension and brake upgrades they can keep up with them in the twisties. I've never as much fun as the day I spent around Tail of the Dragon with a couple of hard riders on their Triumph Triple Sports. They were a little surprised that a 640 lb bike kept them honest Jay
With an FX/XL front end I would change it every 10k miles. You'd be amazed how nasty it gets, but 20k won't kill it either.
For the FL front ends, it can get to be a lot of work depending on the bike, and 20k is fine just to save the hassle. (Unless you have those dang 02-05 Fairing models with the cartridge fork, that just sucks.)
No joke, I heard someone used atf fluid , for some reason......unavailability. Was this guy nuts??
I remember my dad using ATF years ago. I used it too when I serviced the forks on my ATC's and dirt bikes. It worked. I use regular fork oil now because I can experiment with different weights of oil to see what works best for me.
