You're all right on your helmet posts and opinions.

I've been trying to go the 3/4 rout myself, but still haven't found any that fit that don't make me look like the gazoo above. Mayble I'll find a cool 3/4 and grind out the inside a little for a custom fit.

It's not so much about looking cool to me. It's more about enjoying riding. A full face makes me feel like I'm watching the road on TV. It's too cut off from everything and I've done tests to verify that they seriously reduce your peripheral vision, at least the ones I've had access to test do.

3/4 is probably the best all around choice. One thing great it could do is cut down the wind noise while still leaving the scenery and road unblocked from view.

When I got my bike a couple years ago, I swore I'd always wear a helmet. First, I got a 3/4. Well, here in FL where it's pretty damn hot all the time, the thing made me sweat pretty good. And, it seemed too heavy. Did a good job on the wind noise, but other than that it was very uncomfortable. Not good. So, then I switched to a half helmet. Not as hot, but also kinda heavy, and now I had the problem of it trying to blow off my head at highway speeds, with the chin strap gouging into my neck. This one was more of a distraction than anything, so much so that I felt it was dangerous. So, now I don't wear one at all, even though I wish I could find something I could live with. I'm thinking of ponying up the dough for one of the carbon-fiber jobs, and hopefully that'll make me happy enough so that I'll wear the thing. I'd probably feel a little safer wearing one, but then again I'm one of those guys that believes that when your time comes, you're going, helmet or not. At least I'd go happy.

I have a few novelty helmets I have bought over the years.I also have a Bell 1/2 helmet from 1969 that I got from my father a long time ago.
I looked long and hard for a helmet without the mushroom thing goin on to no avail.I called ACCand followed the instructions as to the sizing on thier website. The quality is fantastic however as soon as I get over 50 mph the helmet wants to slide off my head.Ive tried tightening it to the point ofthe strap cutting into my neck, switching the pads numerous times, wearing a bandanna and a welders cap, nothing works so it must be my head.It sits on the shelf gathering dust, useless to me.I wear the 1969 Bell shorty and it does great.
Personally I hate helmets and always have.

I've never worn a helmet in my younger days riding ... back in the 60's ! Now that I'm older and started riding again last year ... I bought a HD full face helmet! I like it! It has the shield movement up n down along with the entire helmet lifts up with a click of the thumb if you have to spit or want a smoke! Keeps the eyes clear and in the cold weather, head is warm! The only time it started to lift off my head ...was doing around 95mph ! They say the older you get the wiser you get ...... well ... that's still up for debate _

Personally, I chose to wear a helmet. I've had a couple of "Oh *****!" in the past and I can tell you, a cap or bandana just becomes something to wipe your butt with after the fall and slide. Not only is the initial impact something to be concerned with, but that slide on your face on asphalt is not fun. You wear leathers or jeans in hot weather, please GOD, tell me it's not flip-flops and shorts.

I wear a 1/2 helmet with a 1/2 shield. Keeps the wind and bugs out of my face, but I can still talk to others. In cold weather I wear a face shield and skull cap. Works for me.

Why does a jet-jockey, helo-pilot, or race car driver wear a helmet?A helmet is not going to do much good in a major crash, is it? It's the little crap that gets you every time. That little old lady down the street making a left turn in front of you; the teenager in your neighborhood who just got his/her liscense runs into you at the traffic light; the little kid whose ball went into the street and races out to, unaware you are about to mow them down, and you hit the binders to lay it down to avoid killing the kid.

Looking "cool" is not always being smart. As always we need to keep the gene-pool culled out.

It's your decision and it's only my 2c worth.

If you really want a shock research what the requirments are for a helmet to meet DOT specs. If you are truelyworried about safety the invest in a Snell rated helmet. Not as cosmetic but leaps and bounds ahead in the Safety department. Me I wear a $17 turtle shell. No helmet in the world will save you at highway speeds or in alot of other situations all it will truely do is keep the goo all in one place. I've had everyone from EMT's to surgeons confirm that alot of times all it does is make a difference between a open and closed casket.

I fall into the "never really wore a helmet" category. A couple years back I decided to pick one up for riding in the rain. The salesman talked me into a 3/4 by saying, "I'd rather get a little wet than have the restricted view of a full face."

Well...I personally hate the 3/4. The wind blows up underneath the visor and under my shades causing my eyes to water, and in the rain, the wind blows the rain up inside the visor. There goes the vision.

Anyone else have any luck with the 3/4? Anyone wanna buy my 3/4 HD helmet?

Anyway...since I only wear mine on long trips when I don't wanna be hassled by the wind or when it rains, I'd rather have the full face. And depending on the size of the helmet, maybe one like daddio was talking about with the flip-up chin.

I have an ACC and love it. It's slim, light, and doesn't have the drag, catch the wind symptoms as some of the mushroom helmets. Sure it isn't going to give me the protection of a full face but I am willing to bet that if I went down and bounced it off the road it would do more than a bandana. They are super strong and mine fits like a glove...I actually prefer wearing it over not. It's the jockey style and I think it looks damn cool too.

Closed caskett or open?
Reminds me of a joke I heard.
Bill goes to Danin a gin mill after a funeral and asks"What would you like someone to say at your funeral?"
Dan answers "Well I guessHe was a goodfather tohis kids and a great guy,and he will be missed by all"
Then Dan asks "Well what would you like to hear someone say at your casket?"
Bill says"Hey he just moved!!"
End result your just as dead, thats why women love bikers, and bad guys.Explains why biker leather is black.
BTW I want to be toasted at my death,Ive worked underground for 27 years, unless Im getting paid,I aint going down.
