Installed new battery in my 09 LowRider 2 days ago. Went for a 40 mi ride today (mostly highway), after she cooled down I hooked up the battery tender. Checked it 1/2 hour later, in charge mode (constant yellow light). Gave it another 1/2 hour still in charge mode, have never had a tender in charge mode this long! Another 15 min and it's still charging, plus tender is very warm so I unplugged it. So my question is why since it's a new battery did it charge for so long? And second when I checked it with a volt meter why is it reading 13.03v instead of 12.7v. Appreciate any input.
The battery tender will cycle on and off as needed. If you have a Jr., which is what I'm sure most people use, it's not going to charge very quickly even if the battery is low. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it is a float charger after all. When in doubt check it with a meter.
