Just curious how many people mount them on their bike. I had my bike done and they gave it to me back in a box. I was just curious....

Same here they gave it back to me in a box , you need to bring it with you for any future tuning , that's what they told me ......

I'm not so sure that the "dongle" is intended to be permanently mounted. Besides. That is the whole purpose behind being able to program the ECM. So nothing is left behind.

The Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner (SEPST, I have one) does not permanently attach to the bike. You re-program the ECU entirely with it. Power Commanders and such "fool" the ECU, but the SEPST actually re-programs it. You only attach it to the bike when you're wanting to tune or re-tune the bike.

I have the SE Pro Super Tuner(SEPST). It doesn't mount to the bike, but is used to tune the bike using the software, then you keep the tuner.
Don't get this tuner confused with the SE Street Performance Tuner (SESPT), they are NOT the same thing.
SEPST is a "race application" tuner
SESPT is a street legal tuner
The street version is limited on what they can do with your bike because it will still meet EPA emissions regulations. You want the race tuner, which basically allows them to do whatever they or you want as far as tuning options.

I might add that by appearance, the two tuners look alike besides the wording on them.

Here is another big difference...the street tuner is married to the 1 bike it is tuned with, but the race tuner can be used to tune as many bikes as you want, so when you trade you keep your tuner for your new bike. Don't let anyone tell you different. Dealer salesperson told me this and showed me in their info book so I know this to be fact. Most salespeople and people at the service desk are instructed to tell you that you have to buy a new tuner if you buy a new bike...simply not true, they're just trying to get you to spend more $.

If you need to have your bike re-tuned, such as changing exhaust, etc., just bring the tuner with you and they will use it to tune your bike. It does NOT stay on the bike.
I also might add, that I bought the tuner & had the software installed with SE breather and V&H exhaust when bike was new and it got it close, but had it dyno tuned using the tuner at 1,000 service and it made it 100 times better because they can dial in your AFR and timing perfect for your setup. No substitute for a good tuner and dyno tune...period.

BTW, SE Pro Super Tuner is awesome and the only way to go IMHO.

That's very interesting if true. Have you tried it?

This from the SEPST User's Manual:

Q: Can the user program more than one bike?
A: No. The Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner VCI is a "single unit" design that permanently "mates" itself to the first ECM that it communicates with. The VCI can then be used an infinite number of times to program or record data with it's ECM mate, but will not be able to communicate with any other ECMs.

If you are referring to the SERT or Screaming Eagle Race Tuner, it does not attach to the bike. It is used when loading maps to the ECM but does not attch to the bike in any way. That's one the things that I like about it not to mention that many variables can be tuned with it.

From what I understand:

SERT - the old version. It's a black VCI box.
Street Tuner - not the same as the Pro Super Tuner. It is orange.
Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner - is the new version of the SERT, but is now orange.

I do know that my SEPST is married to the bike and will not work on another.

I have the super tuner (orange) The nice aspect of this tuner is that it in not attached to the bike. It is a really easy tuner to use for downloading programs directly to the ecu
