You dont need a road king to be comfortable. A quality suspension along with a comfortable seat will do wonders without changing the looks. Try it and go from their. The progressive 970's ride awesome but only available in 12.5"

BullSh!t. You can make a Dyna so comfortable you can easily ride the tank dry without stopping. Congrats to the OP for figuring out these things are made to be ridin and who cares if other people don't think you look cool while doing it. If you only ride as far as the nearest bar then I guess it doesn't matter how uncomfortable it is. But he said he was out riding the country roads so why not enjoy it to the fullest.

Thanks for the input everyone. After thinking some more, I have to agree that I will probably be unhappy with how it would come out and I don't want to throw away the hard work I've put into it.

I did throw some mid mounts on to try out the foot position again, it's been along time since I've had them, and I have to say that I liked it much better. Enough that I'm pretty sure I want to pull off my forwards and swap back to the mids. The only problem is that I pulled the mid control shift shaft, so this will more then likely be a winter project to put them back on. Plus I still need to track down a brake pedal and brake rod.

I'm also going to go to Works 11.25 Black Trackers when funds allow them.

My thoughts on the exhaust was more to match the new look I was thinking of in my head but I'm going to scrap that idea for now.

I did almost the same thing your thinking.. since im a few hundred miles away from logging 7k miles on the bike since I got it last June, I wanted a little more comfort.

I went to a current Wideglide bar, 5" riser setup and I really like it so far. The pullback is just about perfect for me. Ive been thinking of adding 8.5" x 1.25" risers but Ive probably logged almost 1k miles with them the way they are and they are comfy.

I bought 12.6" works black trackers, still waiting for them.

I put my mid controls back on with highway pegs.. I love them, way more aggressive.

dynas with mid controls and hwy pegs are the way to go. that way you can move your legs around while riding. I have 12 inch wild one outlawz chubby bars and they are insanely comfortable. So you don't necessarily need to ditch the apes for comfort. Good luck with your changes. personally I think your bike rocks as it is but better shocks and seat along with mids and hwy pegs would certainly make it a more comfortable ride.

Always better to plan it in your head than change it and regret it. Sounds like you have a good plan to keep the bikes look intact (which BTW, IS one of the BEST out there).
You can keep the mid mount pegs on for a few months and see if you still want to change the controls in the winter.
Shock are the BEST thing I did for my comfort (seat a close second). There is no replacement for suspension travel (just talk to Howard at Motorcycle Metal), but your plan sounds like a good compromise (Pro 412's aren't known for their ride comfort).
No get to savin'

I went through the same thing. I ended up changing my bike around and I couldn't be happier. It doesn't look as "cool" sitting on the kickstand but it's a lot more comfortable and enjoyable to ride now. The look has grown in me and I bought it to ride, not look cool and have everyone tell me how cool it looks as I limp away from a 30 minute ride.
