Touring engine is tilted forward, Dyna/Softail engine is tilted back. Bottom cases are totally different because of this.

That doesn't make sense though because for the 120R the same pn is listed for Dyna 06-later/Touring '07 and later and and also a different common pn for 02-05 Dyna/02-06 Touring.

It would seem, the 5 speed tranny on the older Dynas is the limiting factor but I need to get confirmation.

It might be cheaper for me to locate a '06 later Dyna because they already have a 6 speed, vs. buying a 6 speed to put in an '05 but they didn't make an FXDX in '06 to my knowledge and love the sporting nature of the bike. Think it would make a nice platform for a 150hp blower motor set up to smoke all but the fasted rice burners. IMO, the low compression 110" would be a nice candidate for boost.

Hope to acquire bike and blower over the next few months and put it together over the winter.

You could build an '06 and up Dyna to be more along the lines of the FXDX if that's what your motor will fit in. Really would just need to upgrade to adjustable suspension and then do a dual disc conversion using Fat Bob parts and you would have it similar to an FXDX.
