Are you sure that's right?

It's pretty strange that the factory would recommend low octane gas for these hot-running motors. Maybe it's the MOCO's version of denial that their stock engines run hot?? Who knows?

Anyway, running the highest octane gas that's available in your area should help a lot. Maybe even prevent blowing a hole through one of the pistons till you get it tuned.

Good luck

Dealership should have told you to run higher octane, look in your service manual, bet it states to run 91 or better? All newer bikes require higher octane.

Both of my Harleys require at a minimum 91 octane, and the factory recommends nothing more than a 10% blend of ethanol in the fuel. Yea, you might want to check your owners manual.

Are you saying your owners manual reccomends 87 octane?

Better read your owners manual: 91 octane, here.

And quit lugging your motor.

That's what the OP is saying, that's NOT what his manual says. 91

A lot of these guys have never bothered to even read the owners manual. Instead they destroy their engines by allowing it to detonate, not realizing they can burn a hole right through the piston!
