Just so everyone knows... I did a search and none of the threads applied to EFI except one and this is a different problem and engine. 2012 FXDF 103, 2200 miles, V&H Staggereds, SE Stage 1 AC
Ok now that we have that out of the way.
Here is the problem, I went on a nice 75 mile night ride with the wife last night (bike ran great) and 250 mile ride today and everything was fine until the last 50 or so miles. Suddenly the idle seemed to hang at about 1700-1800. The rider behind me said there was a strong rich fuel smell when he was close to me. (Yep I was careful not to say Gas smell...see I know you guys too well!) I fired the bike back up and the Engine Check Lamp came on (Yes I checked to see if the engine was still there...it was so we know that's not the problem. Guess that's why they call them idiot lights, after all what kind of idiot wouldn't just be able to see or tell if the engine wasn't there??? I mean do we really need a light to tell us to check if the engine is still there???) BTW, at speed the bike appears to run fine.
Seriously, WTF, any ideas? Bad OX sensor? Problem with the TB position sensor voltage? Has anyone else with a 103 had this problem?
Bob
Gee, I was thinking the same thing. Was just wondering if this was a common issue which someone else has experenced. Thank God for warranties.
Now all I need is the time to get it there.
Bob
Try a search for DTC
Your check engine light let you know there is a CODE for what ever FAULT your bike has thrown and she stores it on the computer, you can look to see what component has given a fault and go from there.
Did you take to dealer and what was the problem? I have simliar problem on my 2012 Super Glide. After a couple minutes running now won't idle below 1700. I have appointment at dealer 9-4. But would like to know what your problem was.

Oh sorry man, I was so busy I forgot to share the results.
Yes I took it ot the dealer and it was about a 15 minute fix. There apparently is an idle or Throttle stop screw or something like this which should have been set with loctite but was not and this caused the problem.
With mine the exact idle speed was inconsistant. Sometimes as low as 1500 and on my way over I couldn't get it to drop below 2200. When I went to demonstrate it to the Service Advisor it seemed stuck at 1700.
Generally from the begining of the problem the idle was all over the map but never back down to under 1100 like it should be.
Now it is all good and the was no charge of course.
Bob
I just got back from dealer and had same thing. Apparently this screw works itself in instead of out and really messes up the Idle. After mine warmed up wouldn't below 1700. Now about 960 to 980 is the lowest. Strange but good info.
Sort of dissapointing. Not for the OP but, now we have to post another five pages about why the screw was loose and not about other possibilities about why the problem could have occured.
Oh and don't forget the guy who is going to reply to this post in 18 months time!
