I have the progressive 412 series on my Streetbob. I have the Ricor Intimidators and Works springs on order for the front. When I get the front finished I am looking to upgrade the rear a little more. I would really like as much input on the Ricors and the 970s as possible since it's not like I can test them both out without buying them. I ride my bikes pretty hard since I'm used to sportbikes (Buell, R1) and while I know that a cruiser will never handle like that I would at least like to be able to take a fast sweeping curve without the "wallowing" feeling. Also the roads here in Oklahoma are rated some of the worst in the country for a reason! Thanks for everyones input.
By the way, when I get a new set bought I will have a nice set of 12" 412s for sale!
I had the same dilemma a few months back and ended up with the Ricor's mainly because I bought them used on this forum for a great price. If this deal didn't pop up, I would have ended up with the 970's. They just look super sexy. All the reviews posted are extremely favorable. My on two gripes about them is that they do not come in 13"+ in length and that they would pretty much negate the ability to put saddlebags on.
Put your money on ohlins shocks, you can't go wrong. Contact Howard at motorcycle metal and you will get an incredible deal, plus the ride your looking for, and H will fill you in on lots of grey areas concerning suspension.
i cant tell you about the works shocks but i fitted the 970's to my bike and couldn't be happier .Im fitting the intiminators today and that should be it for handling mods.Like you the roads here are like goat tracks and with the 970's i can go for a ride and feel safe to hit the bumps without breaking my back.
They also have 20 dampening settings that can even be changed while riding.
best value for money i've spent on my bike so far.
I have the Intiminators up front with stock springs and they are stiff. I have the 970's on the rear and I love them. I looked at the Ricor's and Works for the rear but wanted the adjustably.
I had the progressinve 412 HD 11" and they sucked. To harsh and would bounce you off the seat. I have the Ricors in 12", love em. Wish would have taken Brian's advice at Ricor and gone longer though.
I like the idea of the adjustable settings but I don't know that I would ever use it. I think that I would get them dialed in and leave them alone.
I thought the same thing, but I find myself changing the damping depending on my ride. I can dial it back for VERY plush, or firm it up for the twistsies.
I looked at both of the shocks you are asking about, but ended up going with Ohlins from Motorcycle Metal.
