Starter issue need help
If you do attempt to jump start it do not have the other vehicle running.
The click means the solenoid is attempting to close, like a relay to allow the high current to the starter. Just because it clicks does not mean it's working correctly to switch the high voltage to the starter. To check, use a multitester at the starter's positive connection point which should be a short jumper from the solenoid. If when it clicks you do have voltage come on to run the starter then it must be the starter, or it's ground. Maybe even the ground to the chassis is corroded or not making contact.

New starter not good? And a bad stator. That must have been a PITA to find out. Those items meant another tear down too.
Thanks for coming back to let us know how things worked out for you.

Had similar problem.......disconnected and cleaned all battery and starter connections with terminal cleaner. Re connected and put a healthy dose of dielectric grease on all connections. Started right up! Note: terminals looked good at time of cleaning (no visible corrosion)..... Go figure.
I am new and not sure how to begin a new thread. So I'll post here, similar issue on my 2000 883 sportster , my motor turn on with the "start , off" switch, and keeps spinning while motor runs????? Any ideas
