Default finding/fixing an intake leak

gonna start trouble shooting my exhaust popping and backfiring.

going to triple check my exhaust, but i don't think that's the problem.

what am i looking for on the intake?

do i do the old brake parts cleaner trick and see if the intake is sucking it in?

I've had more luck with an unlit disposable ciggie lighter, directing the gas at the intake seals and looking for a change in revs.

Try a stick or two of incense near each connection and watch the smoke.

Foxter, I thought you would've used WD40. But the butane idea is good. The special tool from HD is basically a wand for a propane torch. (not a flashlight).
Anyway, I use throttle body cleaner. Just have to be careful not to get it into the air cleaner. And since I test for intake leaks when the motor is hot it's a little easier to reach the manifold with a spray.

Use Carb cleaner, not brake cleaner. Brake cleaner is pretty corrosive and will likely damage any surrounding finish you get it on, carb cleaner will do the same job and not cause harm.

If you use Carb cleaner make sure it is throttle body compatible. I got a lot of warnings last year trying to diagnose a problem on my sons car that was narrowed down to a throttle bodies sensor and I was warned to make sure the cleaner was safe for throttle bodies....

Carb cleaner burns faster than brake cleaner too so you will have a better response with the carb cleaner

thanks guys, picked up some intake sealant in hopes that an intake leak is what's causing my popping and backfiring.
