Thanks 1HD1C & mrnone.
I have no knowledge regarding welding and thus was looking for simpler solutions, which obviously will not work at all.
I'll get it welded. How does one minimise the damage to the chrome during the welding process? Any tips?
Thanks

with the heat generated by welding i don't think you
will have any choice but to get it re-chromed, powdercoated
or painted
paint on backside is cheap and invisible heat didnt Affect chrome at all. i live in the rust and it has not broken thru. can't see any of the mods looks factory.
Here's my heel toe shifter on my street bob. A spare shifter cut and bent and welded on the back of the standard shifter. Still painted but may get it powder coated at some point. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the picture. Looks good & am sure works well.
I had also thought of going for this simple route but stopped because it will not allow any future adjustments regarding the placement of the two shifters or even removing one.
The way with the longer spliced part looked good as it offers more choices and hence I am taking that route.

this is also considered a mid peg style mount, the FLD has forwards which make it tough.. on the switchback owners site a member was able to make a dyna defender shifter work..
