Had some jack wagon in a jacked F-250 do it to me on my way home tonight. I was at his driver side rear quarter and he never saw me, no signal or nothin just came on over.
i've driven in L.A. recently. lane splitting seems nuts to me. I understand why you'd do it with the amount of traffic on your roads... but i still think it takes nuts to do it at the speeds i witnessed.
Being a rider I really look out for bikes when i drive. I'm sure californian locals are used to lane splitters. But I saw a few close calls... i guess you guys ARE used to it.
op... glad you were okay.
This happens to me on a fairly regular basis and every single time the thing that saved my skin was grabbing a handful of clutch and throttle at the same time. Get the pipes screaming and they always seem notice.
The first time it happened to me, I learned that the horn doesn't work, jack *** cagers all assume whoever is honking is honking at someone else, because after all, THEY WOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING WRONG TO GET HONKED AT... right?! They completely drown out the horn, but revving the engine always gets their attention.
I suggest paying more attention if a car can get that close to you. I always assume people can't see me, and that works pretty well. An axe handle can do a lot of damage, but I think a 3000-4000 lb vehicle can do more.
^ what he said!
I've been lucky/attentive enough to have never been surprised and axe handle VS pissed off road raging cager = no contest. Car wins every time.
i know members of certain MC's carry ball peen hammers so when something like that happens, the cager has at least 1 new dent somewhere on their vehicle. they've also been known to have a pocket full of ball bearings they'll toss in the air behind them that causes damage as well.
thats a bay area thing!!!! haha pennies work very well also!!!
its harder out here in cali cuz when we white line here they come outta nowhere espically during traffic
every so often i get someone trying to run me over.. i used to ride a cbr1000, the previous owner mounted a dual trumpet air horn in the fairing pointing out of the air holes.. i had this little old grey hair lady try to ease into my lane. i blew that airhorn, you should of seen her head hit the roof of her car.
i have been meaning to get one of those 2-3 trumpet horns to mount in the fairing of my EG for 4 years now.. maybe i will get around to it on the rebuild after i actually get run over..
