Default Gouged primary drain plug

Was draining the primary on my 2007 street bob and noticed metal filings on plug. No big deal, right? Then as I wiped off the filings I noticed a gouge across the plug end and the magnet from the center was gone. I am assuming that the primary plug is the same as the other two in that a magnet is raised up in the center of the plug, correct? Bike has 17500 miles and the dealer did the last maintenance at 10000. Nothing was said then. I'm concerned that something broke off and smashed into the plug. I don't hear any odd noises and bike runs perfect. It does grind or spin occassionaly on start up. Compensator? Or perhaps the magnet came loose and got chewed up? No other metal in oil that I could see. Bike going up for winter soon, so I'll probably open it up in Spring. Anyone else see this? Sorry forgot to take pics before I refilled...

Your dealer may have over thighened the plug when it did the maintenance, plug went too deep in primary... Very close gap with chain

agreed just pop open the case and take a look... if you just put in fresh oil you can save that by straining it and putting it off to the side... pick up a new primary gasket and check... if the plug was put in too deep it would have to go SO deep to hit that chain, ooh and the chain tensioner would have to be shot... i would just open it up and take a look, you should never get a grinding out of your primary... ever... may want to toss a SE spring on the clutch while in there

It seems like the magnet wouldn't make it very far before it stuck on to something.

Yeah, I'm going to open it up. Plug was pretty tight but shouldn't hit anything. I'm just hoping there isn't any major damage... JRK, do you mean clutch spring do compensator? I hear there was an issue with early TC 96's and weak compensators.
