Hello all,
My wife and I took our 2011 Dyna Super Glide for a afternoon ride today. We rode about 200 miles of rual routs and stare roads. Awe
some ride and perfect weather. Right before we got home we stopped off at the store for about 10 min. We came out got on the bike and tried to start it up. It would crank but not turn over. Turned the throttle a little tried again, this time it started but back fired (made a loud pop) when it started. It rides fine but i have been noticing lately it gets harder to start after it is hot. Any ideas as to the cause. Any help is appreciated.
That's a common issue with that motor any time it is warmed up. It should have come from the factory with compression releases. It will eventually wear out your starter motor, ring, and pinion gears. Try hitting the starter immediateley after the fuel pump starts priming. This helps with mine sometimes. I'm rebuilding my motor right now and am adding the releases.

You just reminded me of something! When you turn the ignition on with these newer bikes WAIT until the icons disappear before you push the starter button!

After the bike is warmed up (ex: stop for gas or food) and there is pressure built up in the motor, I hit the starter before the pump is done priming. It starts easier that way. When the bike sits for a while and cools off I wait until the pumps done priming (and the light goes off) to start it.
The most serious things I have heard come from this problem are having to replace the starter motor or your ring and pinion gears. I always check my ring and pinion gears for damage when I change the primary fluid.
