Default Quick release Lexan windshield replacement

I needed to replace my 11 Dyna Quick Release windshield because it had a few scratches due to an accident. I went on line to Memphis Shades but they did not show a direct replacement plastic only shade for my 11 FXDC. They did however provide the measurements from hole to hole and my 11 Dyna Super Glide was the same as 2005 Dyna quick release windshield. They also had several different height sizes. There was no direct replacement listed for my 2011. That is because the windshield trim pieces for the 2011 are stuck with double sided tape on the HD OEM. I measured my windshield mounting holes with the measurements Memphis Shades showed for the 05 and they were the same so I ordered it. The direct HD replacement has the mounting bars attached and cost about 50% more.
The mounting bars on the OEM can be removed using a putty knife and gently prying the bars off the OEM Lexan windshield. Mine came off very easily with the tape in tack still on the mounting bars. I was able to mount the bars onto the new Memphis Shade but required bending the mounting bars just a tad at the bottom holes. If you elongate the mounting holes in the bottom 4 holes (2 on each side) of the new windshield you would have no problem. I did not want to risk damaging the new windshield and just bent the mounting bars which are thin. I am however concerned the pressure from the bars may cause the holes to form a star crack but we shall see with time. If I had it to do over I would just make the 4 bottom holes bigger. The OEM HD windshield does have elongated holes in the bottom 4 holes.
The new windshield is very nice and I was able to get it in the 17" height instead of the 18.3" OEM height. I had trimmed 1.5" off the OEM using a dremmel cutting wheel. When I trimmed it it was not perfect but very close. The Dremmel will melt the Lexan when cutting and you need to make a second cut at a slower speed.
I saved $50 and had the height I wanted without cutting so I am very happy. Hope this helps any one that needs to replace their windshield.
