It was hwy 666 before it was changed and is known as the Devil's Backbone. It will take me about 5 1/2 hours to get to the finish point from where I am now. I am going to take about an hour to stretch in Alpine and then I will head back to Sierra Vista. Should be around 11 hours in the saddle.
It will be a solo run on the wide glide! I am positive I will be sore on Sunday!
I will try to get some pics and let you all know about the route. I have done some research and there are suppose to be around 600 curves in a 60 mile stretch. Should be an awesome ride.
I left about 5:30 this morning and it was COLD!! I froze solid. I need better gloves, that's for sure!!
I am in Alpine now. The road was awesome! So many curves that my neck hurts now. It is a dangerous one too, especially down around the south end. Lots of 20mph hairpins with no guard rails and a 300 foot drop. I was dragging heels and scraping pegs like crazy!
All done...12 hours and 700 miles later. I took 180 from Alpine into New Mexico and then 78. That road is almost as awesome as 191. I could not get a lot of pics but got one or two. Was in the 30's when I left this morning...I was freezing until about 1 o'clock. Once I left Alpine, it was pretty awesome after that.
Yeah Man, that is a FANTASTIC ride! Have done it 8 or 9 times, lastly last year on my Super Glide Custom. We went in late Sept early Oct, got a big bubble of high pressure over like an umbrella fro 11 full days, 40 degrees at night, 75-85 during the day, not a speck of rain all the way from Chicago and back!
