Considering trade in
I have put almost 24k on my 11 WG, I love this bike. But my wife rides with me most every time that it's a weekend ride. So I have been considering a touring model so it could be more comfortable for both of us and we can take some longer trips.
I am deciding between a road glide ultra and a limited, no need to argue the differences between these models as I will be renting each one within the next few weeks and will make my own decision.
However! I would like a few opinions on guys that have added accessories to their dyna for the sole purpose of 2up riding and how they like it after the mods.
Am I making a mistake by shifting over to the touring side? I love the handling of my dyna.

You can build up a dyna (bags, windshield, etc) and turn it into a "tourer". Conversely you can strip down a bagger and turn it into a "cruiser". In my opinion, neither bike will perform as well as an actual tourer or cruiser.
That's pretty much why I added the RG to go along with the dyna.
With the amount of mileage you put on I think you'll really like the touring platform, and you might be surprised by how well they handle.

I traded my 2002 Wide Glide in on a 2010 Ultra LTD for the very same reasons.
I really wanted to not like this bike based on my Dyna and Sportster experience but I swear I ride this ultra more aggressively than any of my other bikes.
I've been looking at buying a used Dyna or Sportster for running around town. Last week I took a 2000 WG out for a ride and I couldn't get over how touchy the front end was and how much area I needed to make a U turn.
Since you are comfortable on the WG I think you will be very surprised at the handling of these big touring bikes.

If you can afford both do it. I'm still kicking myself for trading in my 02 wide glide.
I kept my Dyna when I got my Street Glide. It was already paid off so why not. Have you thought about a Road Glide Custom. A little more sporty and I like the ride and look way better then the full blown touring bikes.
No matter what you do to the Dyna it's not gonna be as comfortable as the touring bikes.

I love my Wide Glide, but every time I get on the highway I wish I had a tourer. I took a two hour ride (each way) today to pick up a windshield, in preparation for the colder weather. On the way there cruising down the hwy at 70mph, I felt like I was fighting to stay on the bike, I was exhausted by the time I got where I was going. On the way back with the windshield, the ride was much better, but it was still tiring. I was getting hammered by the wind. I will definitely upgrade to a tourer when I have the funds, but I would like to keep my Wide Glide for around town.

I will always have a touring bike for vacations with the wife and always a bike for everyday riding by me alone.
If you are tall ( I am 6'3"), the Electra-Glide is a little more cramped for the driver. That is the trade off to give the passenger an incredible amount of room and comfortable position. Believe me, after a 5,6 or 700 mile day, it is better for you to be sore than your wife to be sore!
With no need to consider the wife as it pertains to my second bike, I built a Dyna to be exactly what I wanted with no compromise. I actually do solo cross-country trips on this bike. I placed the footboards where I wanted them and installed the solo seat that I wanted.
I have always wondered what the rear foot pegs felt like on a '06 and newer Dyna. They are connected to the swing arm which is directly connected to the motor and the rear wheel. You feel every bump and all the engine vibration. It either must feel like a daylong foot message or it buzzes your feet to numbness.
