hey guys thinking of getting the 412 hd shocks and want to know if they are the right fit for me! looking for upgraded performance but that's not the most important thing! the most important thing for me is 2up riding with the wife we are not small people we both weigh about 220 so that's 440 2up! will they last and will they not bottom out? plus i like that i can get them covered! any insight is appreciated
Yeah, the 412's in 11 inch just dont have enough travel for a decent ride.If you want to run a shorter shock go with the 11 1/2 440 HD,amazing difference in the ride compared to the 11 inch 412HD.
I have the 412s. Can't really tell much of a difference in ride quality. But no more two up bottoming out. Me and the old lady are about the same weight. Good luck
They have another shock might be the 440? Can't recall it's a better shock they make. It little more money but better then the 412. Bathe other good thing about the 440 is you can turn the shock by hand and you don't need to use the shock turning tool.
if i get them im going with the 12 inches!!! don't want to lower the ride at all!!! Ive heard of the 440's and the new 444's but they aren't in my price range and neither come with a cool full cover as the 412's do!!!
I have the 412 HD 11". They were extremely stiff at first, but are starting to soften up slowly. I ride 2 up with the shorter HD shocks and do not bottom out when set correctly. Still, not a bad shock for the price (better than stock).
I have 412 standard 11" on the Fat Bob. They are a little stiff. I agree with the other posts, go with an 11.5 in a higher series (440?). I think youll be happy you spent the extra.
My 02 FXD is running with the 412 HD's, direct replacement length. Riding solo the shocks are set on (1), the "softest" setting then we are two up, it goes to 2. I suppose if you land in a major pothole hole you would probably bottom out. I also changed out the front fork springs to Progressive's replacement springs. A real good match to the 412's.
Softest=1 stiffest=5 on the settings. Hope this is what you are looking for.
