Hey, I have been looking around here in the forums and I found that I didn't need a load EQ to swap my rear sigs to LEDs, which I have done and they are running fine without one. Here's where my question comes in...
I'm thinking about going with a low profile LED taillight too, if I swap my stock taillight for a LED part, will I need to add a load EQ in and if so, where does it need to be installed?
Thanks for any help you all might be able to offer,
Jimmy
I think it depends on the bike and the brand and style LED bulb or set up you buy....I installed a HD rear LED tail light on my 07 FLHTC and it was plug n play then last week i installed a Panacea all in one tail light on the 2002 FXDP and it came with a load equalizer so i installed it...it ran without it but the Equalizer had switches on it to make the brake light blink 3 times before going solid and another switch it using gignals or nor, i am not..

The hd piece didn't need a load equalizer because its just a tail light. The panacea comes with a controller to change functions and a load equalizer because it can be used for the turn signals too. A load equalizer is not needed for a tail light. It is only necessary to keep turn signals from flashing fast.
Best I can recall they are numbered like the stock bulbs. 1157,3157 etc. Think they came in clear, red and maybe amber. About eight bucks apiece. I used red because I am running the black lens.
Thanks to everyone for the input! I'm looking to clean up the lines of my rear fender so I think I'm going to check out some of the low profile lens replacement options and LED seem to be the sleekest route.

So it lowers the load because if the load is higer it will be too much power going to the signal and make them flash faster...??? is that right???Make sense because LED use almost no current...
The load equalizer that ships with Panacea is not so good. The documentation warns you that ro NOT run 4-way (I.e. hazard) blinkers for extended amounts of time, or the equalizer will overheat. Serious fail. Also for dyna 06+ its now one switch instead of 2 so you either get:
- integrated turn signals + flashing brake light
Or
- no turn signals + solid brake light
Also disappointing. I will be getting a replacement equalizer at some point, maybe it will provide integrated signals+solid brake light. Here's to hoping
