Default Fuel pump removal - help please

Really hoping someone can provide a little guidance on this. I've searched high and low and haven't been able to find a suitable answer. I am prepping my 2012 FXDF for a winter overhaul, part of which is having the tins powder coated. Anyway, in order to do so, I have to remove the fuel pump. I've gotten the tank off and every other component disconnected and removed without issue, but I can't figure how to get the fuel pump out of the tank. I'm sure it's some sort of clip system, but I don't know the trick to it, and I'd hate to break something during removal. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Curtis

Shine a flashlight inside the tank, you should see the clips that hold the assembly in place, it should just slide forward and release. Then you have to turn it so it will come out of the hole.
Make sure you disconnect the supply line before you try to pull the pump out of the tank. Once the supply line is disconnected you can unscrew the fuel line QD on the outside of the tank.

Thanks guys, seems pretty straightforward now. I didn't want to force it out and risk breaking something. My sporty fuel pump was a hell of a lot easier to take out. I'll give this another shot tomorrow and keep you posted.

I didn't find it necessary to remove the fuel pump in order to have the tank painted.?

It's not for paint. But, I am powder coating the tins. Powder coat needs to be baked at around 400 degrees. The electronics and fuel pump wouldn't survive the heat.

HDCuustomFab is leading you in the right direction..... After you remove the dash, disconnect the electrical and, the mounting hardware; gently lift the module up out of the tank to render access to the fuel line and, undo the clip that holds the fuel line to the pump. When the fuel line is disconnected, it's just a matter of rotating the module to allow clearance and, lift it from the tank.

Best wishes....Tim(HT)
