Default engine guard question-FXDC

I know I know, its ugly.....
I am considering an engine guard for my FXDC. one for protection, both bike and ankle. and two for highway pegs, I'm tall and ever since I got the sundowner seat my position is fine but I could use the stretch.

I looked at Cobras install instructions for FXDC and I think my FWD controls will be a problem with those. the guard only takes one of the two holes on the frame boss, leaving the plate from the FWDs to need tweaking that I am not going to spend my time doing.

Linbar website says not for FWD controls.... I just sent an email to get the real info about their product and my bike.

I guess I never really considered the HD one, but I'll start the search now

All in all. I want a solid and easy install. any experience Y'all have with this would help me. THNX

The H-D bar will bolt on in a few minutes. I don't quite know what you mean about protecting your ankle because the engine guard is really only for when you drop the bike while parked. Any engine guard will fold right over when at speed.

I would consider the engine guard as the most versitile way to mount Highway Pegs for your particular comfort situation.

B.T.W. an engine guard is the fastest way to total a Harley, insurance wise that is. If the engine guard pops out of the upper frame tab and bends that tab out of shape, the bike is essentially totaled for frame replacement.

I may be wrong but I don't see much for the engine guard to protect on a Dyna. Looks like the most benefit you'll see is a place for highway pegs.

THANKS.
you are making a good point about a crash at speed and the bars becomming useless. I think if I had an accident or layover it would be with time to reduce speed greatly, but unable to get completely out of the situation...... if that makes sense. Just thinking I could buy some time to remove my feet from the area that is metal to pavement.

Highway pegs would be a big plus on my ride.

so in a bad accident the insurance would pick it apart and give you a check for repairs when the guard could cause them to total it... hmmmm good thinking.pros and cons either way?

Default Bikers Choice engine guard

I went with the Bikers Choice engine guard. It bolted right up with my forwards. You can position your highway pegs in a variety of places for comfort on any ride. I put my pegs near my floorboards and often leave my heels on the boards with my toes on the pegs. If I need to stretch even more, I just use the pegs by themselves.

Thank you for the pics!!!
looks like it bolts on top of the forwards?
So take bolts off the frame boss and add guard bracket then replace bolts to the frame boss? longer bolts needed?
It looks like an acceptable bar at great price, a very smart move.

Lindby just got back to me... the 104-1(Linbar) and the 1304(multibar) both are good with HD forwards. the instruction sheet specifies this....
Lindby is the most expensive and best looking option.
can you place pegs on that bend of the multibar and linbar? Any lindby owners out there care to comment?

There's a bar with another mounting option that bolts to the frame down tubes.

I'm not sure it's HD cuz there isn't a part number but the original HD bar I had (that mounted where the forwards do) didn't have a part number either. The guy I got this one from said it was from a Softtail but who knows. Two u-bolts, some washers and acorn nuts and it is on my FXD.
