Default fork tubes

I was thinking about getting a set of progressive lowering springs for my 09 SGC.
I have seen other bikes where they have repositioned the fork tubes in the trees by an inch effectively lowering the front end. Is this an acceptable (and safe) method of lowering the front end??

Thanks,
Buzzard

It changes your rake, a inch seems like a lot, I'd be worried about the handling

its not a very good way to do it but I have seen it done. It is just as easy to change the springs and do it right. You will be happier in the end

If you lower the front by an inch, I would recommend lowering the rear by an inch. It will effect the handling by just lowering the front in that it will be more twitchy and possible needing a steering stabilizer. If you can lower the forks in the trees it should be fine. Just make sure the fender doesn't hit the bottom of the triple trees when compressed.
