Bassani should have gotten back to you pronto. Id be pissed if it took more than a day. Something like this needs immediate attentionand & immediate resolve.
Did not hear from Bassani today, maybe tomorrow, but as I mentioned earlier I have made some spacers from a flat aluminum bar that is 1/8 inch thick and 1 inch wide. I cut 6 pieces, each about 4 inches long, then drilled the 2 holes for the new longer bolts, then installed. Any comments or suggestions - let me know. In the pic the bolts are not tightened down yet, the bolts will thread down through the nuts about 3/8 inch when finished.
That works. If it has to be your permanent fix, I'd hit it with some black paint
While I realize the 3/4" gap is a bit disconcerting for you & Bassani, which it should be. It does seem a bit excessive. Keep in mind, & I'm assuming here that you mounted these pipes by snugging & tightening from the front to the back, based on the the best fit & how the pipes wanted to seat & locate in the heads & exhaust gaskets, let the pipes "float" where they may.
As of right now, all I have done is lightly tightened all 4 of the flange bolts on. The fit at the exhaust ports did seem good. I was wanting to get some resolution from Bassani before tightening everything down. I completly agree with your use of "float", that is why I have been so slow to tighten anything down. The Bassani instructions tells you to tighten all the hardware down a little at a time but the Harley Service Manual has you tighten down the cyl head bolts first then the bracket hardware last which makes more sense to me.

Thanks Good Apollo, I agree, will be heading back to Loews.
My plan today is to email Kurt at Bassani with a pic of my spacer fix, and then if he doesn't contact me with any news, I will call him, then hopefully I will finish up and ride today. What I really want long term is a new muffler bracket from Bassani.
When they list these pipes to fit ALL dynas I think there is an issue. Same thing with mine, I have some fitment issues, not with the brackets, but had issues with the brake pedal and clearance to the frame down tube, had to dremel off part of the heat shield on the front to allow clearance and there still isn't very much.

One would assume Bassani will solve the problem. I can't believe this is the first time it has been addressed to Bassani. Having to build your own spacers is unacceptable to solving their engineering issues. Like Alan said, "hopefully they will design and build a bracket that works."
Ok, I'm done, tightened everything down, and have taken it out for a couple of short rides. The sound is great, very deep and powerful sounding. Not too loud at idle but roars with a twist of the wrist, glad I got the quiet baffle. Now it is time to play with my Power Vision fuel tuner.
Never heard back from Bassani, I kinda don't think I will, what can they say? I don't think they will want to admit to a fitment problem, then they would have to make new brackets for a lot of people. Maybe they will start putting more effort in this area. It is probably hard to make the fit perfect everytime so why not some nice spacers included with the exhaust?
Anyway they look great, sound great and I am moving on to new things but I will add to this thread if Bassani calls/emails back.
Can you tell me where you bought the pipes...I have Bassani Road Rage Short as well and am trying to get hold of a quiet baffle...No one seems to know where to get one and Bassani don't return my emails...
Hey Dirtdobber, the bracket on the bottom is the transmission bracket, the bracket "hovering" above it is the bracket that attaches to the back of the muffler section and the seperation between the two is about 3/4 inch.
Thought I would show a pic of the present installation to show pipe/ground clearance - I know that I am not worried about dragging this pipe.
That is the same bracket that we used, We bought our wide glide used so I am starting to think it has been lowered front and rear. It came with 11 inch shocks. so from what I am seeing the front must be lowered to. It has a Danny grey seat and I am 5'7" so when I sit on the bike my knees are bent a lot which is very unusual even if it has been lowered.
With the lowered shocks The headers scrap with the slightest curve. Went to 12 inch shocks and I still could not use them.
The bike was tuned with the big radius so when the road rage I lost some power in the mid/upper rpm range. Quite a bit I might add.
Thanks for posting the photo

Hey Sparra, I bought the pipes from Direct Cycle Parts, but I customized my order for the black fluted end piece and the quiet baffle. So Direct Cycle Parts had to call Bassani to get a price then they called me back and I ordered. I worked with Frank at Direct Cycle Parts, he could do the same for you. I am surprised that somebody does not carry that part though. Good luck, Alan.
