Their not so bad. They get better looking with age.
I steel wooled mine and let them tarnish and darken.
I like to know that my engine, trans, primary are getting the best possible cooling from the raw cases as paint is an insulator and contains the heat rather allow quick cooling.
Plus when I ride I don't even see it..
Ya, sorry, but there really is no cheap way to do that... proper way to do it would be tear down and powder coat them... or like the other guy said he bought paint from harley but IMO i dont think that would turn out the best compartively to getting them PC
i degreased my engine and painted just the barrels harley testured black paint and left the rest of the engine grey, kinda gives it that old shovel look. The paint has been on there for over a year and no issues.
I used some VHT Wrinkle paint when I moved my controls forward. I painted the chrome plug that went in the mids hole. It worked good. Scuff the surface then spray it as directed and place it under heat lamps to wrinkle. Worked good. Matched right up. Time will tell on the durability. Would be tough on a larger scale though. I'm not fond of natrual cases either.
Man, I can relate. I'm not a fan of the grey cases on my FXD either. I couldn't beat the price though. If I ever tear down the motor, black powdercoat is in its future.
