I there a difference between the 40274-08 and the 40274-08A? Ive got an 09 FXDC and have seen the -08 on ebay but want to make sure there is not a superseded part with the new number. Thanks
There must be or there wouldn't be a different part number. Theres an old thread out here about this. Something about a washer i think. I take it your looking at doing it huh? I just put the 40274-08A on my Dyna last week. Havent been able to ride as really cold here around Omaha huh?
Im doing it. Have a starter noise but didnt sound exactly like the comp noise I read about so I took primary cover off to inspect. Started drive and "flywheel" teeth look great so has to be comp. Now just need to buy. I used sixth gear and rear brake to hold everything to remove clutch nut and comp bolt. You know dimensions of the locking bar? Your in Omaha? This weather freaking sucks!!! Road all last year!

Yes I'm north of CB. Yes I put on 1k a month last year all the way thru winter. Not this year. Damn roller coaster weather. Gonna ride friday suppose to be 51. I used a 7" piece of 2x4. Worked great. I didnt remove clutch basket. I stroked the case a little removing a little aluminum. Didnt want to mess with inner case leaks. If you dont have the 1"3/4 wrench they sell them at Tractor Supply for 21$ or a pipe wrench would probably work.

FYI, I did find out about the number change. I changed only because HD added more bikes, models, etc. The part is the same! Just got mine off ebay for 175.00 plus 15 shipping! 250.00 new. WOOFREAKNINHOO!! Doing the 30000 mile service too. Anybody know what grease to use for the steering head bearings? Says special purpose grease in the manual. WTF? Junkster- thanks for the imput and love riding your neck of the woods. beautiful area.
