Yes there is a difference that's why there is an "A" added to the part number. There is a thread somewhere in the HD forum that has pictures included - I would post a link but I'm not sure how.
I replaced the stock comp. a few years back with the SE comp. A few months ago I had the bike in for a problem and they replaced the comp. with the "newest" SE comp.
Jimbo, according to the parts guy at Milwalkee HD the parts are the same. The A was added because of more models being added. I havent seen the parts side by side so not completly sure. Justed bolted it on last night. Hope to have everything else done by next week when it gets into the 40's!
Not sure if the Link will work but here is a thread with some pictures. Not really sure what the issues were that they changed the design (slightly) but I do know that with the stock compensator I used to get a big clunk out of the primary when I would start it up - heard it referred to as "starter kickback". Whatever it was the SE comp. got rid of it.
This install cleared my kickback and the knock I would get pulling a hill when loaded down with 2up. It also clutches out smoother. 07-010 were the issue. The newer bikes come with the upgrade stock. Looking at SE204 cams now. No head work necessary. Any tips with these cams.
Ya, get it dyno'ed. The 204's are a little tricky to get dialed in just right, but once you do they're a darn good cam. Come on @2400 all the way up! Also, bump you hot idle down to 950 - sounds great. Have fun, ride safe!
Thanks for the feed back. Ya I'm looking for more womp and a good throaty sound. I'm running a stage 1 with PCV+AT. I'm hoping that this will alleviate the need for a dyno. They beat the sh$t out of your ride. How do I bump the idle down?
