Default se compensator

i am having a grinding noise when starting my bike every now and then, it only happens about 1 out of every 30 starts. the battery is new so i plan on checking the starter drive gears

i am thinking about getting a se compensator installed while im in there

my question is my bike is an 05 se electraglide does it already have the se compensator?

Sounds like a starter clutch. An 05 shouldnt have the issues with the comp like the 07+ do.

You need to pull the primary cover and check the ring gear for missing or worn teeth first..

It is way easier to pul the starter. If the teeth are not damaged on the starter they should be ok on the ring gear. While the starter is out replace the clutch, Follow the SM it's easy. Might take you 3 hrs turn key the first time. Get all ***** clutch and while your there rebuild the solenoid. Drag has all the parts cause the dealer doesnt. It will be around 100 bucks.

The reason I mentioned to check the ring gear as I had several broken teeth but the starter and everything else were fine..If you look close on the upper right hand you will see trouble..Hope this helps.

Don't wanna jack this thread, but since were talking compensators,my 09 sg has a knocking noise I believe is coming from the primary area? It only does it when I let the clutch out without giving it gas! Sounds like the transmission is coming apart, however, seems the noise is on the left side? Could it be comp??

Yea sounds like a comp. Does it bang on start up. Not trying to be an *** but there are tons of threads on compensators. Tons of info.
