just put on this Made in the USA LaRosa Dyna solo bag it's made from hard thick leather, top quality hardware, straps right to the frame (straps included). This bag is 12 1/2" long on the left side, 12" long on the right side, 11" wide and 3" deep.
For day to day riding I have a small swingarm bag but you need to take off the passenger footpeg on the left side. For longer trips I use a Detachable Solo rack from Harley, works great.
If you're looking for a good way to hard mount your solo bag so that you can carry more stuff or don't want to use the flimsy straps that come with some bags (or don't want to have the straps rub off the coating on your frame) we make a hard mount kit that mounts the bag down by your swingarm, leavingvyour fender nice and clean. You can also use the same mount to use a softail style swingarm bag, which gives your more options as far as styles and bag manufacturers.
I have the same solo bag that Carsten mentioned, I also use a MOAB 10 slingpack from 5.11 for commutes to work and all day rides. The advantage of a slingpack for riders is that you can reach back and twist it to the front to access anything that is stored in it, without having to remove the bag, or get off the bike; the downside is that some slingpacks don't feel like they are resting securely on your back. If I need more space than that I have detachable saddlebags.
